If a high school student is not TSI exempt or waived from taking the TSI Assessment, then the student will be required to take the TSI Assessment.
High school students awarded partial TSI exemption or placement based upon sections of STAAR EOC, SAT, ACT, PSAT, or PLAN may be required to take sections of the TSI Assessment relevant to course selections.
The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) has been developed by the state legislature to ensure student success at institutions of higher learning.
TSI requires that all incoming students enrolling at Texas public institutions of higher education be assessed to determine their level of college-readiness in Reading, Writing, and Math.
Incoming Texas college students are required to take the TSI Assessment (unless they are exempt; see below) **Students who do not place college ready in one or all parts (English, mathematics, reading, and writing) of a TSI exam must enroll in an appropriate developmental education course before the student may enroll in a credit-bearing course for the subject in which he/she did not meet state standards.
